Peter Robertson was a Lancaster gunner during World War II. Over the course of thirty missions, he was introduced to wine by his pilot, John Seppelt of Great Western. Robertson turned to farming after the war and planted the Hilltops first vines in 1969. Robertson's Barwang property has since produced some of the most memorable vintages. Parcels from two elite blocks are vinified into a richly concentrated, classically structured Cabernet Sauvignon, showing great length of black fruit flavours, olives, currants and eucalypt, over a structure of elegant oak and sound tannins, a wine of opulence and grace.

From nineteen invaluable rows of Reynella clone Cabernet Sauvignon, the descendants of John Reynell's original import of vine into McLaren Vale circa 1838. Planted to the crest of a cave, excavated 1916 to cultivate mushrooms in the dense limestone bluffs overlooking Maxwell vineyards. Aged twenty months in a high proportion of new French oak hogsheads, the classic Cabernet characters of currant, cherries and cassis, a generously proportioned palate underpinned by soft, chocolatey McLaren Vale tannins and seamlessly integrated cedar vanilla oak.

Excellent Langtons Classification. One of the Coonawarra's most feted marques in Cabernet Sauvignon. The Majella property was originally acquired for the purpose of grazing lamb. Eric Brand of neighbouring Laira Vineyard offered to buy fruit from Majella if the land was turned over to Cabernet. The site was planted in 1968, much of the vintages that followed went to Wynn's, but it was not until 1993 that Majella vinified and bottled its own estate labelled wine. The inaugural release was enthusiastically received and Majella have never looked back.

Giovanni Maglieri migrated to South Australia 1958 and worked the vineyards at Pirramimma. He bought forty hectares of McLaren Vale scrub in 1965 and set about the task of clearing land to establish vines. The quality of Maglieri wines rose dramatically, by the early 1990s Maglieri was well positioned within the pantheon of first growth McLaren Vale estates. A classically structured, engagingly complex wine which displays great depth of colour, luscious aromas and intensity of palate, easily one of the most essential examples in McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon.

Longview is just south of the historic township of Macclesfield in Adelaide Hills. Once a dairy farm, it's been meticulously restored and developed into an award winning estate vineyard, now crafting the most spectacular, regionally articulate wines. Devil’s Elbow is a hairpin turn on the old Adelaide freeway, Longview's oldest vines are planted here, a place of shallow, sandy loams, ironstone and quartz topsoils. The quality of Cabernet is spectacular, in regal Adelaide Hills fashion, its overture of wild cherries, capsicum and fresh herb, resolving on a lengthy, black bramble finish.

Two Gawler high school mates mooted the idea of making Adelaide wine. Vineyards were surveyed, the major requirement being that old vines were essential. They fortuitously secured for themselves supply from some precious old sites which had survived the pullout schemes of the 1980s. Grapes are picked off old to very old vines, grown in auspicious sandy loams, nestled amongst the river red gums of Mt Lofty. Components are cannily assembled to achieve a unique construct of the established Cabernet Sauvignon style.

St George is the archetypal full bodied, engaging and complex Coonawarra Terra Rosa Cabernet, sourced from the celebrated twelve hectares of St. George Vineyard, known to feature some of the eldest, most reputable plantings in all Coonawarra. St George is the fruit of painstaking viticulture, treated to a century and a half of accumulated skill in the vinification, as practised by the most skilled members of the award winning Lindemans team.

Lindemans know from good red wines, custodians of the most distinguished Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in Coonawarra. Sydney Hamilton was a highly accomplished oenologist who established the Leconfield brand in 1974, at the ripe old age of 76. His commemorative label is crafted from the top cut of Cabernet Sauvignon, hand picked off the original estate plantings, vinified in Sydney's favourite old fermenter, finished in a luxurious selection of completely new Dargaud Jaeglé French oak hogsheads and aged an extravagant twenty nine months. Dominated by opaque winegum, black cherries and cassis, draped in a robe of satin tannins, Coonawarra Cabernet of the highest order.

Leconfield's regional flagship has remained in splendid form for decades, a stellar performer which achieved immediate prominence and massive critical acclaim from inaugural release. An exacting approach to viticulture is central to the magnificent quality of fruit, uncompromising standards of vinification complete an extraordinary Coonawarra Cabernet. Arthur Jackaman was a World War II paratrooper who established a Cabernet vineyard in the 1960s, selling his fruit to the big brands for bottling as port wine. Jackaman chose Langmeil to husband his treasured vines and the property remains productive as one of the Barossa's most stately blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon. Hand pruned, hand sorted and picked, the precious parcels of Jackaman's fruit are treated to a traditional vinification, followed by transfer to a luxurious selection of mostly new French oak hogsheads for an extravagant two years maturation.

Cabernet Rosé at its finest, by one of the Barossa's most adroit handlers of dry grown old vines. Crafted from hand selected grapes, fermented twenty four hours on skins, capturing the opulence of Cabernet while locking in a modicum of fine, crisp tannins. Greg Follett's great, great, great grandfather took up land in Langhorne Creek circa 1850, the first Palomino and Doradillo vines were established on Follett's farm during the 1880s. Knappstein has been the most conspicuous name in the development of Clare Valley wine since 1895. Originally established by Tim Knappstein as Enterprise Wines, the low yielding Enterprise Vineyard yields some of the region's finest Cabernet Sauvignon, exhibiting bold concentration of flavour, distinctive mint eucalypt flavours, fine, velvety tannins and striking acidity, as derived from the iron rich soils and limestone geology. Replanted in 1969, the calibre and typicity of Enterprise Vineyard has shone consistently throughout the years.

Cuthbert Thornborough Kay saw service in World War II, he was an ardent enthusiast of full bodied reds and established the finest Cabernet blocks in all McLaren Vale. Outstanding Langtons Classification. John Riddoch founded the historic Coonawarra Fruit Colony at Katnook in 1890. Odyssey was first released in 1996 to celebrate the centenary of Katnook's first vintage under an ancient Coonawarra woolshed. Much of Odyssey's fruit can be traced back to the original sites established by Riddoch over a century ago. The brilliance of its appearance in the glass, identifies the splendour of Odyssey, an abundance of fruit, luxury oak and substantive palate, make it a wine of the highest peerage.

Founder's Block is a story about John Riddoch, patriarch of Coonawarra. While the traditions may have started long ago, Founder's Block are made for today, inviting a modern generation to experience and indulge in the fruit of Coonawarra. John Riddoch brewed up Coonawarra's second vintage in 1896 under a woolshed which now ages barrels of Katnook Cabernet. The original Coonawarra Fruit Colony itself was headquartered in a limestone building which now serves as cellar door. Vines have been trained over the course of decades to extract maximum flavour from the long slow Coonawarra ripening, achieving harvests of Cabernet with ripe generous flavours and fine lingering tannins.

Single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, personally hand pruned and harvested by Kym Kalleske, miller of hay and merchant of chaff, grazier of lamb and grower of the Barossa's most prestigious grapes. Fruit is treated to traditional winemaking and a term of maturation in a selection of seasoned and new French oak hogsheads. The youthful John Glaetzer had already spent time working with Wolf Blass and alongside some of Australia's greats. John's Blend evolved as Glaetzer's own role became inceasingly prominent with Wolf Blass. The techniques that Glaetzer has employed for over forty years are simple, select nothing but the best grapes and complete the fermentation in the finest new oak.

Jim Barry was a sage of Cabernet Sauvignon, he established the finest blocks of vine and was rewarded with the most distinguished accolades. His legacy of superlative editions Cabernet Sauvignon endures, the finest of vintage from the Jim Barry Coonawarra estate vineyard at Kirribilli. Beautifully poised, lifted floral perfumes to start, blackberry briars and cassis, a measure of earthiness and forest floor complexity, a palate of magnificent breadth and length, the terra rosa savouryness and dark cherry tannins in support, as the fruit continues to ripen and bloom.

Jim Barry seized the opportunity to acquire the heritage Penola cricket ground in 1950. The original pavilion was retained and vines were established around the cricket pitch. It endures as the spiritual home of the most memorable Coonawarra vintages. First XI honours the legends of Australian cricket, only ever produced in exceptional years, 2013 is one of a very few editions since inaugural release. Jim Barry was a pioneer of the Australian wine industry, the first qualified winemaker to work in Clare Valley. Jim had a good eye for site potential, he established some of the most distinguished vineyards and had an uncanny intuition as to which grape would best suit the soil. He planted Cabernet vines on the picturesque thirty acre Cover Drive property near the site of the old Penola cricket grounds, atop some of the Coonawarra's most precious soils. A limited release estate flagship, hand crafted by the Jim Barry family from parcels grown to one of the most superlative Cabernet vineyards in the land. Originally settled 1853, it is now the site of a superior copse of vine, dry farmed and painstakingly managed by hand, vinified to old fashioned practices which have remained unchanged for decades, the meagre harvests yield an unforgettable experience in Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

The fruit for this wine was harvested from mature low-yielding vines on the Jamiesons Run most northerly Coonawarra vineyards, and grower vineyards east of Penola. A warm and sunny vintage ensured the fruit developed ripe berry flavours, moderate acid and fine, ripe tannins, the vines produced small compact bunches of small berries with excellent colour and regional varietal flavours.
